I’ve binned a fair few attempts trying to articulate the reasons for stopping but it just feels so self indulgent. All that matters, is that after any album I’ve finished, it always felt like the beginning of a new chapter, stage, whatever the right word is. However, after we finished recording Mote II, I listened from start to finish and I knew it should be my last. It’s a feeling I can’t shake off or ignore. It doesn’t feel like a bad decision though or even a hard one. It feels right. I just need to do something else. I’m not sure what, just not this anymore.
I’d like to make it clear that I’m incredibly proud of the album and it wouldn’t have been possible without the drive and exceptional musicianship of Graeme Smillie. I’m very grateful for his consistent contact to keep me writing. I wanted to stop a long time ago but Smillie’s demos were just too good. So, we got to work and I’m so happy with the result. I’m really looking forward to people hearing the whole thing.
The “official” release of an album, tour and promotion is not something I can commit to anymore so it’s a good place to stop. Hell, I haven’t even toured properly in years. A few dates here and there are not enough to cut it these days and I really suck at social media promotion.
We are trying to arrange a few farewell shows but there won’t be many. Yes indeed, we most likely won’t be play in ----------(fill in your city). Sorry. More details will be announced shortly.
Over the years I’ve have been blown away by the kindness of strangers and I actually feel really lucky. The messages of support from those of you who have got in touch and the time and energy of those who have spread the word has been a constant source of encouragement to me. I appreciate it very much and it has helped me immensely. Please keep writing and I will respond when I can. (Just don’t write to me on Facebook!)
